Cold asphalt production and construction at room temperature, slow curing, good environmental protection, low initial strength, good flexibility, suitable for road repair and low-temperature environment; hot asphalt need to be heated at high temperatures to produce the use of curing fast, high early strength, but the pollution is greater, easy to brittle at low temperatures, and is mostly used for large-scale paving of high-grade roads.
Production process
Cold asphalt: It is usually made by mixing asphalt with emulsifier and water through a specific emulsification process to make emulsified asphalt, or mixing asphalt with solvent to make diluted asphalt. At room temperature can be produced and used, do not need to heat the asphalt at high temperatures.
Hot asphalt: Solid asphalt needs to be heated to about 150 - 180°C to bring it to a liquid state, so that it can be evenly mixed with aggregates, etc. and constructed. The heating process consumes a lot of energy, and has high requirements for heating equipment and technology.
operating temperature
Cold asphalt: can be used at room temperature, generally in the temperature range of 5 ℃ - 35 ℃ can be better construction, not subject to the excessive restrictions of the cold weather, especially for winter or low-temperature areas of the road repair and other projects.
Hot asphalt: construction needs to be carried out at high temperatures, the general requirements of the construction environment temperature above 10 ℃, and the temperature of the grass-roots level also has certain requirements, because low temperatures will lead to hot asphalt cooled quickly, affecting its bonding effect with the aggregate and the quality of construction.
Performance Characteristics
Cold asphalt: Initial strength growth is slower because of its relatively long curing process, which requires a certain amount of time to allow for evaporation of water or volatilization of solvents, as well as gradual completion of the interaction between asphalt and aggregate. However, it has good flexibility and crack resistance, and can adapt to a certain degree of pavement deformation.
Hot asphalt: after construction can be quickly cooled and cured to form a high early strength, can be opened to traffic relatively quickly. Its high temperature stability is better, in the summer high temperature is not easy to rutting and other diseases, but the low temperature may become brittle, crack resistance is relatively weak.
Applicable Scenarios
Cold asphalt: Commonly used for daily road repairs, pothole filling, surface sealing and construction of low-traffic roads. In some places where it is difficult to carry out hot mix asphalt construction, such as neighborhood roads, narrow streets, etc., cold asphalt also has obvious advantages.
Hot asphalt: Widely used in high-grade highways, urban trunk roads and other high traffic volume, high requirements for pavement performance in road construction. It is suitable for large-scale pavement paving projects, which can ensure that the road surface has good flatness, compaction and durability.
